Better Body Chemistry TVYou’re taking a statin to protect your heart. But what if, quietly, it’s wearing down something just as important — your muscles?
In this episode of Better Body Chemistry TV, we take a closer look at the muscle side effects of statins — not just the rare cases of pain, but the slow, silent decline in muscle strength and quality that can affect everyone over time.
🧬 We’ll explore the biochemistry behind statins, the role of Coenzyme Q10, and why many people never notice the damage until it's too late.
This isn’t fear-mongering. It’s science that matters — especially if you’re insulin resistant, aging, or trying to stay strong as you get older.

Sometimes the gates that clear cholesterol are broken (often genetic or hormonal), other times the delivery system is faulty — that’s insulin resistance. In this video, I break down the difference so you can understand what’s really driving your cholesterol numbers.

In this video, I unpack familial hypercholesterolemia (FH) — one of the most common inherited conditions. FH makes LDL cholesterol build up in the blood because the liver’s LDL receptors (the “loading docks”) don’t work properly. Sometimes the doors are broken, sometimes they’re missing, and sometimes an over-eager enzyme called PCSK9 scraps them altogether.
👉 If your cholesterol has stayed stubbornly high despite your best efforts, this short will help you understand why.
💡 Key takeaway: If LDL is high because of a genetic glitch, it really does matter. ________________________________________ 🔔 Subscribe to the channel for more science-based stories: youtube.com/@Betterbodychemistry?sub_confirmation=1

High LDL gets all the bad press — but did you know HDL is the real cleanup crew in your bloodstream? 🚛✨ And low HDL is actually the REAL problem when you are insulin resistant. In fact, low HDL is one of the criteria for the condition, not high LDL.
In this short, I’ll show you (in plain English) how HDL swoops in when LDL particles get damaged, and why these “hazardous waste trucks” are critical for your health.

In this short, I’ll walk you through fascinating research from the Weizmann Institute showing how gut microbes follow daily schedules — and how irregular meal timing can throw them off, with real consequences for your waistline and health.
✅ Learn why your gut bacteria rely on meal timing (not sunlight or temperature) to stay in rhythm. ✅ Discover what happens when you eat at odd hours — and how this can literally reprogram your microbiome. ✅ See why “eating on schedule” is one of the simplest hacks to protect your metabolism.

#BloodSugarControl #Type2Diabetes #DiabetesManagementWhy too much TV watching is especially problematic for young kidsBetter Body Chemistry TV2024-08-16 | So let’s start with the inconvenient truth.
Your muscle reserve is decided during in utero development i.e. you’re born with it. Of course, what you are born with is in proportion to your frame…………. it expands with you, thickening and lengthening to support you and DO THE THINGS. The vast majority of this thickening and lengthening happens BEFORE puberty. So what you get up to, BEFORE puberty really sets the tone for what your muscles will look like when you are 92.
Hours and hours of lounging on the couch in front of the TV as a tot, will leave you with a lifelong muscle disadvantage.
This is likely to translate to a dislike for exercise and the lower muscle mass puts you are a trajectory for metabolic issues, because muscle is the biggest consumer of dietary sugars.
This video is primarily aimed at parents of little ones, but if that is not you, it’s still worth tuning in to the beginning bits to learn a little bit more about muscle biology.

#MuscleHealth #MetabolicWellness #BetterBodyChemistry #HealthTips #BuildMuscle #SugarManagementIntroducing cholesin a new hormone regulating cholesterolBetter Body Chemistry TV2024-07-10 | Cholesin is a brand new hormone, it’s not just new to me, it’s new to the world – it made its official debut in March this year.
It has definitely created quite a buzz in the world of cholesterol, although truth be told, it’s existence is not really a surprise. It makes sense that there would be a regulatory system in place switch off cholesterol production/release when cholesterol containing foods are eaten. The same thing happens for glucose.
Animal studies suggest cholesin can lower plasma cholesterol levels – basically it’s “tricking” the body into believing more cholesterol has come in. Putting a hold on cholesterol production.
It will be years before cholesin-based drugs come to the market, so it’s not a tool you will be able to use to lower your cholesterol. No worries. There are plenty of other biological “tricks” to take care of cholesterol problems. Introduction to the Problem Misbehaving Prostates Men experiencing frequent urination at night due to an enlarged prostate, a condition known as benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Underlying Issues Exploration of whether the prostate is a direct cause or a victim of issues starting in the blood vessels around the testes.
Exploring the Vein Health Connection Vascular Origins The relationship between prostate problems and blood vessel issues in the testes. Conducted research on 901 men showing that prostate enlargement often correlates with problems in the blood vessels of the testes. Varicose Screening Use of a special scan to monitor testicular temperature and detect vascular issues, often done for male infertility but revealing important data for BPH as well.
The Role of Temperature and Anatomy Spermatogenesis Importance of cool temperatures (33-34°C) for sperm production, resulting in testes hanging outside the body, unlike other animals with different anatomical structures. Gravity Challenge Human male anatomy's need to pump blood up from the testes, involving complex vascular systems with valves to prevent backflow, which can fail under pressure.
Valve Failure and Its Consequences Valve Mechanism Description of how heartbeats push blood upward and valves prevent backflow. Failure of these valves leads to increased pressure in the internal spermatic vein system. Impact of Insulin Resistance Insulin resistance increases the risk of valve failure due to delivery issues within the body’s systems.
Testosterone Overload on the Prostate Testosterone Pathways How elevated pressure diverts high-testosterone blood from the testes directly to the prostate, bypassing normal dilution processes. Prostate Growth Excessive testosterone levels in the prostate lead to increased cell activity and gland enlargement, sometimes progressing to prostate cancer.
Current Treatments and Their Downsides Prostate Reduction Methods Conventional methods include surgical removal or drugs inhibiting testosterone production by targeting the enzyme five-alpha reductase. Negative Effects of Treatment These treatments lead to universally low testosterone levels, which can exacerbate aging symptoms and negatively impact overall health.
Alternative Solutions Varicocele Treatment Study findings show that addressing varicocele non-surgically can effectively shrink the prostate in 80% of cases, alleviating symptoms. Exploring Varicocele Recommendation for men with prostate issues to be evaluated for varicocele and opt for corrective treatment to improve health outcomes.
Conclusions and Resources Proactive Steps Encouragement to investigate varicocele for prostate health and explore alternative treatment methods for better body chemistry and health.
