This Destructive Shield Test Almost Went Wrong... Skallagrim 2024-05-04 | I got an undecorated version of the Ottoman Kalkan reproduction from Salahs Archery to do destructive testing on, and it didn't go quite the way I expected.The shield took a lot of damage but did its job well, especially considering how light it is. I started with hits from blunt swords and a bit of sparring, then shot it with a modern crossbow (the Cold Steel Cheap Shot) and a medieval crossbow with different bolts. This is my test and review of the LK Chen shamshir, a remarkably light but powerful saber.It's a reproduction of a 19th century Persian shamshir at the Metropolitan museum in New York city, and the historical accuracy is a lot higher than most of what you find on the market in this comparatively modest price range.I went a little overboard with hardwood cores in the tatami mats I was testing several swords on, and while I struggled with most of them, the shamshir was like a cheat code that brought the difficulty way down. So here you go, literally as quickly as I was able to. :)Tests like that are always a blast, and this is no exception. Some of those "reproductions" though... yikes. That mace in particular... I've never seen a flanged mace so weirdly cobbled together. DIE BY THE BLADE Gameplay is Intense... Skallagrim 2024-02-16 | Here's a first impression of Die by the Blade, a sword fighting game with a cyberpunk ("Samuraipunk") setting, that is currently scheduled for release in May 2024. The fights are strategic and require good timing due to the Bushido Blade style one-hit mechanics. It has realistic elements but doesn't go exceptionally far, as shown by the fighters spending a quarter of the match with their back turned to the opponent in some spinning helicopter of doom move (I exaggerate, of course). Skallagrim 2023-12-22 | Things got a little weird, throughout the slow descent into confusion, paranoia, and madness.I mean, we ended up talking about snorting powdered mana crystals and searching for hidden stashes of magicrack in the walls... Apparently I can't handle finding all the secrets in Wizordum. It was fun though, lots of hilarious shenanigans.The game itself is a retro style, fantasy themed boomer shooter.
