In this unedited video, I discuss an alternative of framing watercolour art of paper behind glass. I show and chat about how I mount, AKA, "glue" with matte medium, my watercolour paper art to wood panel. I love this process as it takes 15 minutes or less and is one small thing I can do for my art process during a busy day.
I'm very prolific and I share some of the ways I work on my art in stages so it can fit in with my lifestyle as a full time artist , and busy mother.
Once your watercolour art has been flattened for at least 24 hours after mounting it, you can use an exacto knife to trim around the edges. I also use a handheld fine sander to remove the paper fibres that may have torn with the trimming process. I finish my art with a wax medium such as Dorland's Wax.

This is an unedited video sharing my art inspiration of the moment. I show you some watercolour paintings I'd mounted to wood panel, and also some of my works that have been reproduced as canvas prints.
I start my unedited video by sharing my most recent painting, a watercolour piece mounted to cradled wood panel, consisting of a lot of painted papers and collage layers. I show how I use Dorland's Wax Medium as a first buffed on layer to protect the art longer term. I mention how I had used Iridescent Bronze (fine) by golden with a make up sponge to paint the sides of the wood panel.
The botanical layers (painted papers) were inspired by "The Layered Botanical " class by mixed media artist, @marabethquinart . She has been a wealth of inspiration and wisdom, and if you want to check out her style she is also on youtube here:
I like to create what I refer to as "reticulated" texture in fluid art, and how to "break the blank page". The pattern has also been described as "dendritic", and as "decalcomania". I show how I like to find the pattern/texture by squishing the paint between 2 pieces of fluid mixed media paper (yupo paper and plastic craft paper works well too). Some artists use sheets of plexiglass to get a similar effect.
I show some of my artwork that I used the reticulated texture in as a background or focal point. Prints shown are "Counting Sheep", "Peaking Through Windows", "See Life", "Peter the Penguin", "Dancing in Space, "Island Iris Envy", "Sunbeams Over Alberta", "Owl of Moonlight", "Finding Frida One Stitch at a Time", and "Black Toned Paper" collection.
I closed the video by choosing one of my 71 cards from my "Art Poetry for Insights and Inspiration" card deck. I also refer to a book called "Mind Map", by Tony Buzan.

This is video 3 of 3, that is centered around the topic of my most recent art collection as described below. This video shows a small demonstration of how I like to add collage to watercolour paper.
I flip through a book of papers I'd purchased from @artmeupstudios, by Artist, Ann Marie Rezen. Find her on Etsy: etsy.com/shop/artmeupstudios
I pull a card from my Art Poetry card deck which is available at:
The "Purposeful Paper" Art Collection is my most recent art collection, consisting of NINE, abstract, acrylic, and watercolour collages on 140 lb repurposed paper.
Each artwork measures approximately 5 x 7 inches, and will come with an 8 x 10" mat.
The nine artworks were created from repurposing a large work in progress (abandoned work) that was folded into a new "zine" art journal.
While working in the journal, I'd discovered that each of the smaller pages were beautiful works that I could make into collages that measured a standard 5 x 7" format.
Art Supply Mentions:
140 lb Watercolour paper as "base" substrate A variety of papers such as 90 lb paper, tissue, wrapping, origami, magazine, and /or music papers. UHU glue stics Scissors Brayer (or flatten with books).

In this video, I swatch 14 watercolour paints from the Stoneground Paint Co. I also paint an intuitive watercolour background with these and incorporate marking making with water-soluble supplies over top.
I show some art mail I'd received and mention an influential artist, Amanda Evanston that has a monthly community called the Insider's Studio. I show some works in progress and also finished works on paper and wood panel.
In this video, I show you what I've been working on over the last few months of summer, in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
The focus of the video is centered around 5x7" collage art in my concertina journal. The journal was folded and cut from a large 18x24" watercolour painting on Strathmore 140 lb paper. I 'd folded it up into a "concertina" book after learning from a course I'd taken by UK artist, Helen Wells. Each page is a great background or jumping off point for a 5x7" artwork.
I show how I remove some finished pages from the journal and put them in a 5x7" mat for an 8x10" frame. I also show how I use my "mat kits" to store my finished works on paper.
I pull a card from an art deck called "Wisdom of the Sacred Oracle" by artist, Judy Lanfredi. Also, I pick a card from my own Art Poetry card deck and share my insights into the words and images.
I also show the beautiful book by Stephanie Thomas, "Beasts With A Backstory" and also do a little flip through of some pages from Uppercase magazine.

Facebook page: facebook.com/allisondawrantHow to transfer an image onto paper, canvas, or wood panel.Allison Dawrant2024-07-05 | Image Transfers, watercolour flowers, and art deck inspiration. #imagetransfers #art #watercolour #irises
In this video, I start by picking a card from my Art Poetry card deck, and share a few decks by artist Cathy Nichols. I show you what art I've been working on since my last video, and an example is the Protea theme where we drew proteas on paper, and painted them with watercolour.
I show you some shadow box style frames from Micheals Canada that I like to use to frame some of my artwork or giclee prints on paper.
I selected a Royalty free image from Flickr, of an Iris (Iris Alberti), and I show you how I transfer the image using black carbon paper onto my watercolour paper. I then show you how I use white transfer paper to transfer the flower image onto black toned paper.
I do some painting with the transfered images, using both acrylic inks and watercolours.
