Now I See Sony a7S - 4K Topaz AI upscale Philip Bloom 2022-11-07 | When this was filmed in 2014, it was not possible to record 4K with the Sony A7S as the Atomos Shogun wasn't out, and the camera cannot record 4K internally. This was a shame as this video was a big reason why the camera sold so many; it demonstrated the low light power of the camera unlike anything else. The original is also my most-watched video on YouTube. I've been using the incredibly impressive Topaz Video Enhance AI for around 2 years, and I use it A LOT! I have messed around with upscaling some of my old videos, but I don't want to replace them as the original versions are a moment in time; that doesn't stop me from re-uploading it, though! This was processed with V3 of Topaz Video Enhance AI, which is even more powerful; I set it to 4K, selected the enhance tab and left the Proteus auto setting to do its work. What makes this so much better than before was you had to set your parameters for the whole video, but each shot is different. When in auto, it is constantly analysing each frame and applying what it thinks the frame needs. Insta360 X3 on Sony a7R V! Philip Bloom 2022-11-07 | Insta360 X3 mounted to the Sony A7R V via a small rig nato rail monitor arm and cage. This was filmed whilst I was in Norway for Sony on Saturday to give a talk at Stavanger foto.When you turn stabilisation off in the studio app you get this wonderful look where the camera is locked to the centre of the frame. I did this with the Fujifilm X-H2s in a post in September and in my X3 review, people asked what the set up looked like, well here you go! 🙂
The return of DJIs TRIPOD MODE...but better!! Philip Bloom 2022-11-02 | After getting nowhere with my begging DJI to bring back Tripod Mode to their drones, which they replaced with the 5x faster cine mode, I started a petition to show them how much their customers needed it. In May, DJI told me that they had accepted the petition; but it was a long slow wait with no information until they sent me the new Mavic 3 Classic, a cheaper version of Three. The only difference I can see from the standard Three is it doesn't have the top camera. The exciting thing is this is the first drone to feature the new Cine mode, which has an adjustable speed top speed. This is what I asked them to do in the petition. It's wonderful to have it again; super fine control is much easier. This was added to the other Three models today as well as a load of other new things. I don't know about other drones yet, don't worry; I am on the case!A full video about it, the Classic and the new firmware for the Mini 3 Pro is coming soon!

Richmond Green/ Hill - Fujifilm X-H2S 6K 3:2 Test Shots Philip Bloom 2022-09-11 | Filmed for the Fujikina event in New York, which I was speaking at but will also be used in my future review, which will have natural sound added.This was mostly shot 6K 3:2 open gate at 30fps converted to 25p and with the 150-600mm F5.6-8 with a couple of shots using the 10-24mm F4 at 10mm. A couple of shots, especially the 100fps 4K bowling shot, are a bit soft due to having a variable ND at 600mm, which is not a good idea; you need fixed strength NDs for such an extreme focal length.Filmed on Richmond Green and Richmond Hill in London.
The Random Typewriter: Shot with Insta360 X3 Philip Bloom 2022-09-08 | Just over 2 months ago Insta360 released their 1” 360 camera, which I have a super in-depth but fun review of on my channel. They’ve just released ANOTHER model, the X3, which is the successor to the ONE X2; I am so glad they have dropped the One from names as it’s so messy!Anyway, I’ve had it for about 2 weeks, and it’s very good! I am making a sponsored video using it to be released in a couple of weeks or so. It’s not a review but a video about how I use 360 cameras and get the best results for them. It will be my first sponsored video for them despite many offers, I’ve always had issues with aspects of the cameras, so I’ve always had to turn them down. So why this one? The image isn’t as good as the 1” as you’d expect as the sensors are 1/4 the size; they are 1/2” sensors which are slightly bigger than the previous model. They are new sensors, though, and because of this, they can produce a much better image. Very important to me there is sharpness control too. This is a strange little edit that I shot last night in my hotel room in Sweden; there was a random broken typewriter in it and it inspired me to make this. The goal was to shoot something that could well have been shot with a traditional camera but has flourishes which are only possible with a 360 camera. All the audio (not the music, of course) other than the footsteps are with the internal mic, which is a HUGE improvement over the terrible mics we’ve had in all their previous cameras. It’s also 48Khz for the first time, thankfully! It’s a lovely little 360 camera, with a gorgeous large display giving super easy control and packed full of features.

DJI just made the Mini 3 Pro a lot more PRO! Philip Bloom 2022-05-19 | FEB 2023 - LATEST FIRWARE: youtube.com/watch?v=ZJNo1LMZseQAfter 3 and a half weeks of making a really well-crafted review the day after it goes live DJI release new firmware which makes something that I say no longer accurate. This was after spending 2 hours talking in-depth with them about what is going on with the camera and what it was capable of! As YouTube won't let you replace videos and I wasn't going to lose all those lovely comments by re-uploading it, the only way to make sure people who watch my reviews have completely accurate info was by making this quick follow up.When looking at the bitrate in the graphic showing 10 bit I blurred it after uploading as it was for a black image after updating so what it was showing wasn't correct. The bitrate is the same as 8 bit which is around 90mbps in 4K 24p etc H265. Also, it should say 16.7 million colours for 8 bit, not 1.67. Typo! Make sure you watch the full review, I am very proud of it, it's probably one of the best reviews I've made. It will also be invaluable to you. It is slow progress but I am working on it again. It will be worth the wait. :) Like all my reviews this took many weeks to make and it was never going to be ready for when the embargo was lifted for the DJI Mavic 3, but that’s fine and nothing new for me!By really taking my time and doing exhaustive testing I have been able to really get to know everything about this drone. Whilst it is missing features that are coming in late January, most importantly the active track, all the main things I focus on when reviewing drones are present. This is a camera review, albeit a flying camera review!I decided to split it into two as there’s so much to cover and it would be over an hour long if I didn’t!!This is a very impressive and powerful drone that has a huge amount of improvements over the Mavic 2 Pro but there’s also some things that in my opinion DJI absolutely MUST fix to justify its extraordinarily high price tag comparably to its predecessor. So find a comfortable place to watch it on a big screen and get a drink and some snacks. It also works better if you have a cat or a dog sitting with you! A Day Out In London - Filmed with the Sony Xperia Pro-I Philip Bloom 2021-10-26 | Sony hired me to shoot their launch film using their very fancy new Xperia Pro-I, the I stands for imaging because this is the best camera phone I have used. This is a proper camera that doesn't rely on computation photography to get great results, instead, it uses the sensor and the optics. It has three 12 MP sensor cameras, a superwide, a 50mm and the main camera which is a 24mm full rame equivalent with a 1.0 type sensor (otherwise known as 1") It also has either an F2.0 or F4 aperture. You can learn more about what exactly a 1.0 type sensor is here: youtu.be/uw-KNmq5WRMYou can record up to 4K 120fps 10 bit HDR. This is also the first phone to get a 1.0" type sensor with phase detection autofocus on the sensor and it has amazing touch tracking as well as human and animal eye autofocus in stills and video. It has a 120hz 4K HDR OLED screen too!My little film was made with a very early pre-production model, the image quality wasn't final and the 50mm lens wasn't working. The majority was shot with the main 24mm camera as it is the one with the 1.0 type sensor. Stabilisation wise you have optical but also EIS in addition if needed. Everything was shot handheld. No add ons were used at all, I used Re:Vision’s Smart Motion Blur plug-in to get rid of the high shutter speed look. The audio (nor the music of course!) was all recorded in-camera. I used the new Video(graphy) Pro app which is really nice, it has full manual control and is the app to use rather than the Cinematography app. Ask anyone who knows me and they will tell you this TOTALLY autobiographical apart from one thing. Yes, I am always filming. Yes it annoys who I am with. The unrealistic thing is I was on time to meet Elena at the cafe, I am ALWAYS late! 😂Once I get a full production model I will do a proper video going through it all, until then please enjoy my little film, It was a lot of fun to shoot and Elena the model was great, even if she has a cheese obsession! This is not my review of the Sony A7 IV, which is coming soon, just after I've uploaded my DJI Ronin 4D review. This is just a quick demo of the animal and bird eye autofocus in video, something that I've been waiting a long time for! After initially requesting it over 4 years ago in a meeting at Sony HQ Tokyo it's finally here and it's very good! Is it as good as the system as the one in my Canon R5? You will have to wait for my review for that! Wildfire on the Greek island of EVIA filmed from Skiathos Philip Bloom 2021-08-10 | There are horrific wildfires in many places right now, these shots are of the one on the Greek Island of Evia which I wanted to share to help raise awareness of the situation. I am on holiday in Skiathos in Greece (as usual) and Evia is directly south of here. This was filmed from Eleni beach on Skiathos which is almost ten miles away. It has devastated this beautiful island and continues to burn. So many people have lost their homes and livelihood. The human death toll has been thankfully low so far, two people who have died including a drone operator who is also a volunteer firefighter and a bulldozer operator digging firebreaks. Whilst many animals have been rescued many have died, left behind in the rush to evacuate. It’s awful. With no rain for so long and record breaking heatwave so many places here are at risk. Just behind where I filmed this is the Skiathos forest, firefighters are camped out there 24/7 ready to react if needed. It really is a tinderbox here. Why the SONY XPERIA PRO is a UNIQUE pro video tool Philip Bloom 2021-07-27 | This is a long term test of the Sony Xperia Pro using it as a professional video tool. This means as an on camera monitor using the HDMI input and for doing live streams directly from it. I don't cover any of the phone features, which are very good especially the camera system, because I wanted to keep this video focused on the unique features that make this a very different phone from everything else out there. They are based on historical naming, not their physical measurements and that includes 35mm as that is based on the entire width of film including the perforations, the width of film that is used is 24mm. In this video, I go explain how the inch measurement and all its fractions came about, why they still use it, how they equate to real physical dimensions and why I think it is time to come up with a new system. I also take the Insta360 One R One Inch edition and turn it into an interchangeable lens camera to show just how powerful a 1" sensor can be despite it being small. Funny fact! I totally forgot about the Z-Cam E2G which has a 1” CMOS sensor with global shutter and MFT mount. The funny part is I have one! Six Weeks Earlier: Z Cam E2-F6 & E2-M4 Philip Bloom 2021-04-05 | I was hired by Z Cam to shoot some slow-motion footage to promote their new firmware which has given their cameras Prores 422 internal recording across the board for the different resolutions and frame rates. Prior to this, you were limited to H265 for high frame rates, This edit is filmed in locations that will be familiar to people who follow my work. It's Richmond, near where I live. I've filmed there so many times but there's always something new to see. Initially, on the 9th of February, I used the full-frame E2-F6 to film the snow, something that always looks good in slow motion, then I moved onto the main shopping street. 6 weeks later I went back to do some match shots and more, to make the most of the first really warm day of the year, 2 days after the clocks went forward so longer daylight evenings. It was also the first day of the slight relaxation in lockdown, letting up to 6 people meet up outside albeit with social distancing....not that this has been followed either then, before or now! This time I used the Micro four-thirds E2-M4.For the F6 I used the Viltrox E-mount adaptor and the Sony 70-200mm F2.8 GM, the 2x extender, Sony 135mm F1.8 GM, 24mm F1.4 GM, and 35mm F1.8. I shot in both the low and high base ISOs only. Shooting in Z log. For the M4, I used the Metabones speed booster 0.71x, Canon 70-200mm F2.8 L F.2.8 II, 100-400mm L F4.5-5.6 II, 24-70mm L F2.8 II, and the 16-35mm L F4. Grading was with Cinematch simply converted it to REC 709, Filmconvert Nitrate, and the occasional LUT as well as additional colour correction. The F6 though is a REALLY nice camera with a very clean image and fantastic scan modes including the full sensor "open gate".
