Day One of the USS KIDD DD-661's transit to the Thoma-Sea Shipyard in Houma, Louisiana. The USS KIDD departed from McKinney Salvage and Heavy Lift's docking facility on April 30, 2024, at 1000 hours. The motor vessel CROSBY INTEGRITY led the tow down the Mississippi River with the motor vessel BIG EDDIE steering from behind. Both vessels are owned and operated by Crosby Tugs, LLC. Local law enforcement escorted the KIDD through each parish, trading off once they got out of their respective jurisdictions. Multiple tugboats were on standby during transit, ready to assist if necessary. They cruised downriver at an average speed of 10 knots. Traveling through the night passing underneath the Greater New Orleans Bridge at 2200 hours and exiting the Mississippi River into the Gulf of Mexico on May 01, 2024, at approximately 0700 hours.
