Gabriela Badillo is a creative director from Mexico City. In 2013, she created ¡Hola! Combo is a creative studio with a special interest in educational, social, and cultural affairs. Firmly believing in the power of art and animation as vehicles for change, she has given life to projects such as '68 voces 68 corazones', a collaborative project that promotes pride and respect for the native communities, pride in their identity, and the use of the 68 native languages of Mexico.
During the fall semester of 2024, Badillo spoke at the John Hope Franklin Center’s ‘Wednesdays at the Center’ series with her lecture ‘68 Voices’. In this talk, she presented the creative, aesthetic, and research process behind each of the animated shorts and share some of her experiences working on Indigenous languages and cultures. The event was sponsored by the John Hope Franklin Center and Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies.
