Writing was supposed to be simple.
You get an idea, open a document, write the book, maybe drink too much coffee, question one sentence for 45 minutes, and eventually become a calm, successful author with a nice pen collection.
That was the brochure, anyway.
In this video, Sara Jenkins calls the fictional 'Writing Support' department to file a formal complaint about what writing actually does to writers — because the emotional reality of writing a book is something nobody puts in the brochure. She didn't know that writing a novel could lead to self-doubt, emotional exposure, character problems, voice issues, accidental honesty, and fictional people revealing things she was absolutely not prepared to know.
