I've been watching low heart rate / MAF videos and it's motivating me to learn more about running and fitness. I might as well start slow at my age. The main thing I want to avoid is injuries. I want light jogging to feel like I'm walking. To enjoy trail running more.In every fastpacking trip there's at least a few moments. Like a minute where everything feels perfect. Like when there's nice shade, slight breeze, slight downhill, and my legs are feeling good. Endorphins are flowing. Sweet views. Steady heart rate. Good pace. I got lot of hiking in but ended up with a sore left ankle. Tried to modify my hiking gait.Feels good to have my fastpacking and lighter weight backpacking loadout dialed in. With the new sleeping pad arriving soon, it may be reaching borderline ultralight. As I was about to head out I found out my brother and nephew were heading to Chesbro Reservoir to fish.I ended up driving to Calero first by mistake but finally met up with them. It was chill. Fished pretty much all day. Tyler caught 7 bluegill.I had second thoughts about backpacking but figured might as well. Sunset is around 8pm these days anyway. I arrived at Henry Coe Visitor Center around 6pm. It was windy. Gusts that night got up to probably 30mph. The NatureHike CloudUp 2 outer fly held up well. I found a tick on me later that night which kind of freaked me out a bit. I'm going to have to make sure I treat all gear and clothes with permethrin the night before now. In the morning I packed up and headed up to Middle Ridge Trail and proceeded down to Poverty Flats. Spent some time scouting the Middle Fork Coyote Creek and took on the brutal climb up Poverty Flat Rd.Stopped by Bass Pond and caught a few fish. I guess some don't like how looks since it doesn't have that traditional bushcraft design. I don't care about that. It's relatively lightweight and inexpensive. It doesn't take much time to put the sheath back on. Chops, carves, and splits great. The swell at the end of the handle has nice ergonomics. The bright orange will make it easier to find. Choking up and doing quick wrist chopping feels great. I got in the zone and processed almost all the wood in the backyard.I've been thinking of picking up a fire pit to burn all of the wood. I could use it as fuel too... Maybe build a DIY gasifier stove.I might try to do more 'camp cooking' with all the backyard wood. I've been thinking of baking a pizza again with the Firebox 8" Cook Kit. The last time I tried baking a pizza with the Firebox Titanium Nano I used wood pellets and charcoal for fuel.

I recently ordered a hatchet to help process the wood but it nudged me to continue restoring my Dad's old Japanese Nata axe. There's still work to be done but made some good progress.Using the Nata and Real Steel Pathfinder, I carved out a new batoning bat/club with one of the pieces of hardwood. Along with a wedge I carved, I finally was able to split a piece.
