Tape16: Genius or Total Gimmick?”

Today, we’re talking about Tape16 — a retro-inspired tape machine DAW designed around limitations, destructive recording, commitment, and old-school recording workflows instead of the unlimited editing style of modern DAWs like Logic Pro, Ableton Live, FL Studio, Cubase, and Pro Tools.
Tape16 has been getting a LOT of attention lately because it flips modern music production completely upside down:
• fixed 16-track layout
• tape-style recording
• destructive punch-ins
• no endless undo workflow
• print MIDI instruments to audio
• hardware-style transport controls
• commit to sounds early and move on
Some producers think this kind of workflow boosts creativity and helps finish songs faster.
Other producers think it makes recording, mixing, and producing unnecessarily harder.
So the big question is:
Do limitations actually make you more creative?
In this video I share my thoughts on the Tape16 workflow, why so many producers are debating it online, and whether a tape-style DAW could realistically work in modern music production.
I did NOT demo the software in this video — this is more of a discussion/opinion video about the philosophy behind Tape16 and tape-style production workflows.
