The Academy Awards has a long history of rewarding dull, forgettable movies, while ignoring cultural milestone films that have stood the test of time. They also consistently ignore specific genres. Here in part one we explore some of the worst examples from the years 1970-1984. Snubbed iconic movies include Midnight Express, John Carpenter's The Thing, The Road Warrior, Risky Business, Alien, Dirty Harry, The Shining, Scarface, Psycho 2, A Nightmare on Elm Street and The Terminator.
