On September 20, 2019, the Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy (SOFIA) Boeing 747SP, which carries a 106-inch reflecting telescope to study the universe from 40,000 feet, landed at MSP Airport for refueling. Not only is SOFIA unique due to her space exploration equipment, but she’s also an extremely rare aircraft. Designed for extremely long-range flights, only 45 747SP's were ever made.
