The World Humanoid Robot Games (WHRG), the world’s first large-scale competition where humanoid robots compete in sports, performance, and applied tasks, is underway in Beijing, the capital of China.
On the second day of the games, which began yesterday, competitions were held in the 100-meter sprint, 100-meter hurdles, 3-on-3 and 5-on-5 football matches, kickboxing bouts, and artistic gymnastics finals.
Beyond athletic events, humanoid robots showcased their skills in scenario-based competitions designed to test practical applications. In one hotel scenario, robots were tasked with cleaning a hotel room, while in a hospital scenario, they had to locate and collect prescribed medicines from shelves.
The event is organized in cooperation with the Beijing Municipal People’s Government, China Media Group, the World Robot Cooperation Organization, and RoboCup Asia-Pacific. A total of 280 teams from 15 countries—including the United States, Germany, Japan, and Malaysia—are participating alongside China.
More than 500 humanoid robots developed by robotics companies, universities, research institutes, robotics clubs, and enthusiasts are competing in the games.
The event aims to demonstrate advances in humanoid robot technology through practical applications. Robots are competing not only in athletics, gymnastics, football, and kickboxing, but also in performance and scenario-based categories.
In the performance category, solo and group dance routines are presented, while the scenario competitions involve tasks related to material handling, classification, organization, and cleaning services.
