LA Zoo | World Jaguar Day! @TheLosAngelesZoo | Uploaded 10 months ago | Updated 1 day ago
The L.A. Zoo is home to two jaguars— one female named Johar, and one male named Kaloa. At 22 years old, Kaloa is one of the oldest jaguars in North America! His age and health are a testament to the excellent care he receives at the Zoo. Wild jaguar populations are declining due to deforestation, cattle ranching, and poaching. Financial support from the Zoo has enabled conservation organization Paso Pacifico to preserve habitats, purchase camera traps, reduce jaguar predation on livestock, implement a jaguar curriculum to be taught to rural schoolchildren, and begin a carnivore monitoring project in El Salvador.
