The World Craft City status, awarded by the World Crafts Council, celebrates places where craft isn’t just part of the past—it’s alive and thriving today.
It’s a big recognition, shining a light on cities where handmade skills support culture, community, and local jobs. It also helps boost tourism, spark new ideas, and connect makers all over the world.
Stoke-on-Trent has already earned the title for its famous ceramics. And now, our own Birmingham Jewellery Quarter is being considered—a place with more than 250 years of jewelry-making history.
As part of the judging, we at Cooksongold were proud to welcome visitors into our workshop. We've been part of this area since 1918. Today, we refine—not mine—precious metals, support sustainable practices, and supply tools and materials to thousands of jewellers across the UK and beyond.
For us, craft isn’t just about keeping traditions alive—it’s about building something new, shaping the future, and doing it all by hand.
