The funding rules changed this summer and almost nobody outside policy circles is talking about it.
Workforce Pell went live July 1, 2026. Pell money, the funding we've pointed at four-year degrees for fifty years, now reaches short-term job training. Programs running 8 to 15 weeks. That means a student can get help paying for the credential that puts them to work in months instead of years, without the debt load of a four-year path.
The guardrails are real: programs need at least a 70% completion rate and a 70% job placement rate, they have to pass an earnings test, and every one of them has to be approved by the governor of that state.
Educators, counselors, and district leaders need this information now, not in three years, after the first cohort has already made its decisions.
