The Burj Khalifa has more than 24,000 glass panels that must be cleaned periodically to keep them sparkling amid the dust and sand of the Dubai desert. One exterior cleaning cycle takes about three months to complete.
Since one cycle is nearly complete by the time the next one begins, the cleaning process continues almost year-round. A specialized team uses maintenance gondolas and rope systems to reach every surface of the 828-meter-tall building.
