Work IQ is the brain behind Microsoft 365 Copilot and agents — a built-in knowledge layer with three elements. Data gives secure access to unstructured work content across SharePoint, email, Teams chats, and meetings, plus structured business data in Dynamics 365 and Power Apps. Context adds semantic understanding of who you work with, your work patterns, personalization instructions, and saved memories. Copilot in Outlook analyzes your priorities and past meeting patterns to recommend how to resolve double-booked calendar conflicts. Copilot in Word drafts a complete executive summary from a blank page, pulling content from SharePoint and OneDrive while automatically applying sensitivity labels based on your existing information protection policies — everything retrieved is aligned with your access permissions and data security policies.
A Copilot Cowork agentic workflow then generates a briefing document, customer presentation, and Excel forecast from a single prompt — scheduling team prep time and sending an email status update while it runs. To reach non-Microsoft systems like ServiceNow, CRMs, and ticketing tools, Copilot connectors in the Microsoft 365 admin center extend Work IQ using API-based connectors (indexed, for read operations) or MCP server connectors (read and write). And developers can integrate Work IQ into their own code with the Work IQ API — shown here using the GitHub CLI to build and deploy a claims agent directly from a Teams conversation.
