My first job was at Sears, working as a cashier. Whenever I wanted to buy something, I viewed it from the perspective of this quote: How many hours would I have to work to purchase it? There were quite a few things that I learned to live without.

Thoreau, the author of this quote, is so cool. He is a transcendentalist which is a fancy word for someone who believes in high thinking and simple living. He believed that instead of buying new clothes and seeking the latest fashion trends that instead we should focus on self improvement, being a better person.
