In this woodturning video I turn a natural edge bowl from a Birch log. This log was from a dead fall Birch tree. You can see the start of the rot around the pith, the lower parts of the trunk were hollow. I salvaged some for fire wood and kept a few pieces to turn. I thought I would risk turning this weird shaped piece even though it wasn't dry. I turned the outside and left it in plastic bag overnight then turned the inside so the walls were quite thin (around 10mm) to allow the piece to dry quicker. A couple of days later it had dried quite a bit so I sanded and finished it with Danish oil.. I'm expecting a bit of movement as it dries fully but hoping because of the thickness of the walls, not to much cracking will occur.
