In this video I turn a natural edge form, from a freshly cut Silver Birch crotch Log. leaving the limbs showing makes it some what impractical but certainly makes it more interesting.. I don't turn a lot of green wood but my preferred method of drying is to turn quite thin ( these walls were around 8mm ) and then give it multiple short blasts in the microwave, to reduce the moisture to a point where I can sand it without the sandpaper clogging up, then I will allow it to dry naturally before applying oil..
Update - It's almost 3 weeks since I finished this piece and luckily there has been no splitting and the moisture content is at 15%
