If you want to learn to wood carve, making a Swedish Dala Horse is a great place to start. It's a simple form that can be carved in an afternoon.

I have made it an annual tradition in my wood shop to carve one Dala horse during the holiday season, and give it away to a friend. This year, my good friend Anne of All Trades invited me to her shop to hang out and talk carving. Anne is an amazing woodworker and organic farmer, so I couldn't think of a person more appropriate to give this years horse to.
