The first verse of this song was originally written and sung by Richard (Dick) Nelson, sometime after arriving home in New Zealand, having served in Egypt and Italy in World War II. This song formed part of his personal testimony of how the Lord, helped him to overcome the depression and anxiety associated with post-traumatic stress syndrome (shell shock). His youngest son, Craig has now expanded on the theme of the song, using biblical truths in verses two and three. They further reflect the journey many of us have taken from the dark depths of despair to a place of hope, healing and redemption through the coming of the Saviour - the Counsellor and Prince of Peace. The Nelson family hopes that those who listen to these words will find for themselves, that same healing and peace.
