This is not a martial arts class. However, to learn how to live and move from your center, it can be very helpful to learn a martial art form. Martial art forms won’t provide you with the skills to fight off an attacker, but they will teach you how to live and move from your center.
You will acquire the skill of living from your center (center of mass and balance) rather than from your thoughts, leading to a sense of ease and freedom, physically and emotionally. Our health and wellbeing is directly impacted by our thought processes. Every time we repeat a negative or judgmental thought, we automatically reinforce the neural pathways supporting repetition of that thought. The antidote taught in this class is to return to your body-center as soon as you recognize unhealthy thinking. What makes this practice so effective is that each time it is practiced, the return to centering reinforces the neural pathways for future centering. Balanced Under Pressure is a way of testing each other in class to see if we are on the right track.
