So, I recently decided I no longer like The Wizard of Oz. I'm referring to the original 1900 book by L. Frank Baum, not the delightful 1939 movie by MGM starring Judy Garland. In this review, I discuss the Baum book, and also two other books which document the making of the 1939 movie, and also the legacy of Oz in popular culture, and the plethora of stage and screen adaptations of the classic books.
The Wizard of Oz has long been a staple of British Christmas television, even though neither the book nor the film are particularly Christmassy. That's why I decided to review this non-Christmas fayre in the run-up to Christmas, with my own decidedly Grinch-like spin.
But don't worry, I'm still me, so it isn't long before I forget my disdain for certain elements of the book, and get distracted by the beautiful illustrations by Michael Hague, whose name I shamefully neglected to mention in the video!

The music in my opening sequence and end card is from Epidemic Sounds.
