Benebell Wen | Witchcraft Fundamentals: About the Course @BenebellWen | Uploaded January 2020 | Updated October 2024, 1 hour ago.
This video is closed captioned. I would like to introduce you to a new course offering I have: The Doctrinal Basis of Transcendental Magic, which is short-titled Western Witchcraft I (with advancing course offerings to come in the future).
Western Witchcraft I focuses on the doctrinal basis and theoretical fundamentals of transcendental magic. The course is an immersive study of the first 12 chapters from Eliphas Levi's Doctrine (1854), Part I, of the greater collected work, The Doctrine and Ritual of Transcendental Magic (1854, 1856).
We will also be studying selected excerpts from Cornelius Agrippa's Of Occult Philosophy, Levi's subsequent text, Key to the Great Mysteries (1861) as translated by Aleister Crowley (Trans. 1959), and referencing works from Israel Regardie and Paul Foster Case.

||| THIS IS NOT A TRADITION |||
This course is not teaching any particular tradition of ceremonial magic or witchcraft. It will be more of an academic philosophical study of these arts, through the specific and narrow framework of Eliphas Levi’s Doctrine from Transcendental Magic.
We are studying occult philosophy in a clinical manner, and then working through practical exercises to apply the principles we’re learning, with the hope that practical application will support comprehension of the philosophical principles.
Levi asserts that the occult is a science, and that is the premise we are working from in this course. We are probing underneath the accouterments of magical traditions because figuring that out should be your own independent quest anyway. This course is about understanding the foundations of Western occult philosophy.
