Welcome back to our early morning seminary teacher training series! In this video, we explore the important guidelines and cautions you need to consider when integrating audiovisual resources and technology into your gospel instruction.

Key Concepts Covered in This Training:
Avoiding Overreliance: While technology can be helpful, an overreliance on it can result in lessons that are technology- and media-driven rather than being scripture-based and focused on the learner.

A Resource, Not the Main Focus: Audiovisual aids should never be the main focus of your lesson. As Elder Boyd K. Packer taught, they are like "spices and flavorings that go with a meal" and should only be used sparingly. They should never be used simply for entertainment or as a time-filler. Always preview your media to verify that it directly contributes to what students need to learn and that it reinforces or supports the scriptures and the doctrines and principles taught in the lesson.

Standards and Edification: It is vital that any media used is edifying and in keeping with Church standards. Sometimes worldly products carry a good message but also include undesirable content that can offend the Spirit. Additionally, a video or audio segment should not be used if the source contains inappropriate material, and teachers should avoid controversial or sensational items because they usually do not build faith and testimony.

Copyright Laws and Appropriate Sources: Teachers must strictly follow copyright laws to ensure neither they nor the Church are liable for legal action. Typically, teachers are permitted to download and show Church-produced materials for noncommercial use, unless a restriction is expressly noted. Conversely, because of the significant risk of copyright violation, the general rule is that seminary teachers across the world should not show their classes materials that are not produced by the Church.

Watch now to learn how to wisely and legally use media to keep your lessons safely focused on the scriptures and the Savior!
