Every January, the hearty (some may say crazy?) show up to hammock camp (and a few tents) in the cold and snow of northern Wisconsin. Some loonies hope for temperatures to drop below -30 F. This year 54 people showed up to the event located just off the Ice Age Trail, near Pearson Wisconsin. Nice to see old friends and make new ones. This year, the temperature only got down to 2ºF so we decided punch a hole in Game Lake and go for a dip.
Socializing, eating lots for REALLY good food, winter activities such as snow shoeing and the POLAR PLUNGE kept us busy. Everyone seemed to stay warm and have a good time.
This free event was organized by Nick Gordon and NOW Outdoors. They have numerous trainings (including Winter Camping 101) and many expeditions you can participate in. Oh yeah, and they have the sweeeeet alpaca hats from Peru.
