Work together to survive... while also trying to win for yourself? In this video, we're taking a deep dive into Winter Rabbit board game, a beautiful and unique game rooted in Cherokee folklore. Winter Rabbit funded on Kickstarter and is now landing on game shelves in 2025.
In Winter Rabbit, players take on the roles of animal characters from Cherokee fables, like Bear, Otter, and Terrapin, working to prepare their village for a long and harsh winter. You must work together to gather resources and fill the community's Storehouse. If the village isn't ready by the time the final frost falls, everyone loses together. But if you do succeed, only the player who contributed the most (by scoring the most points) claims victory!
Gameplay & Key Features:
Semi-Cooperative Survival: Explore the core tension of the game where you must help your opponents to prevent a collective loss, even as you compete to be the most helpful and win the game.
The Trickster Rabbit: Beware of Rabbit. When his token is revealed at a location, players don't gain resources—instead, Rabbit sneaks them off to his burrow.
Worker Placement with a Twist: Learn how players place villager tokens face-down to hide their intentions, adding a layer of suspense and deduction to every turn.
Storytelling as a Mechanic: We'll look at the powerful Story Cards, which represent shared knowledge and provide benefits to the whole community when told.
Conservation & Balance: This isn't a game about endless exploitation. Clearing land for resources makes it harder to produce in the future, so players must manage and restore the land to succeed.
