I want to share some winter shots I took with this little digicam that could … the one and only, the Canon Powershot SD780 IS, also known as the Ixus 100 IS. I've installed the CHDK hack that enables shooting RAW files with it. The colors you’re seeing have definitely been tweaked.

That’s the nice thing about not being stuck with straight out of camera jpegs … I can push the color around a little. One downside about the CHDK firmware is that it pauses the digicam after taking a RAW photo.
It takes away the immediacy of the point and shoot form factor but it does add to the feeling of “digital film” so to speak which is what is drawing so many people nowadays back to these consumer ccd digicams.
This what it’s all about … being out and about … picking out the remarkable from the quotidian, the wondrous from your day today so to speak. You might be surprised by this but what makes me shoot with a digicam over my phone is the ergonomics.
Taking a portrait picture with phone is an ok point and shoot experience BUT when you want to take a landscape pic it’s awkward as heck. Even though this is a small device with the surface area of a credit card, it’s still more pleasant to take pictures with. Firstly, it’s easy to switch from landscape to portrait, one-handed … I repeat … one handed.
Because this is a digicam, you have dedicated controls, which makes using it second nature to zoom or tweak the exposure compensation … even in this compact package. I enjoy having a dedicated camera for quick low-stakes photography instead of just a smartphone.
