A major expansion to a Winnipeg personal care home will include a new child-care centre with 152 spaces, making it "an intergenerational hub," provincial officials said on Monday.

The centre will be in a new 20,650-square-foot wing of the Saul and Claribel Simkin Centre.

Originally called the Winnipeg Old Folks Jewish Home when it opened in 1915 in a duplex with five residents in the city's Point Douglas area, the centre has evolved into a 200-bed facility in the Linden Ridge neighbourhood.
