In this video, I am exploring the stunning Colne Point spit on the Essex coast and spending a cold and windy night under the stars in a bivvy bag.
The camp is part of a global world record attempt - aiming to get the most number of people sleeping under the stars in a bivvy bag at the same time and I am joining a group of wild camping and outdoor enthusiasts at this beautiful coastal spot.
Before meeting up with the others, I take some time to explore the area and walk to the tip of the spit, passing a nature reserve, a nudist beach, abandoned boats, thousands of oysters scattered along the beach and enjoying delightful views across the estuary to Mersea Island, the Blackwater Estuary and Bradwell nuclear power station.
Arriving at our camp spot, I meet up with the other campers taking part - a lovely bunch of people who warmly welcomed me into their group. I set up my Bivvy amongst the grasses at the back of the beach and then joined the others as we sat around the fire, cooking, chatting, laughing and sharing an enjoyable evening together before retiring to our thin nylon bunkers - our only defence against the relentless cold wind blowing in off the North Sea.
