About Window on Collections
For 165 years State Library Victoria has collected books, maps, ephemera, objects and artworks on almost every subject you can think of, with a special focus on Victoria. The State Collection includes almost 5.5 million items which provide a vital window into the past and record of contemporary life.
Window on Collections is our new series of displays and events that give you a glimpse of what we’re collecting and why.
EVENT TOPIC
Looking at how the topic of immigration is explored and discussed through comics and graphic novels. Panel discussion will be followed by a virtual view of some of the Library's relevant graphic novel/comic collection items.
About the panel
Moderator: Bernard Caleo reads, makes, teaches, preaches, performs and delights in comic books.
Safdar Ahmed is a Sydney-based artist, musician and academic whose first graphic novel Still alive is now available through Twelve Panels Press.
Dr Daniella Trimboli is a cultural studies academic at the Alfred Deakin Institute for Citizenship and Globalisation, and expert in migrant identity.
Shaun Tan is an artist, writer and film-maker who is best known for his illustrated books that deal with social and historical subjects through dream-like imagery.
