Windows 11 is Hiding Your Storage (Here’s How to Get It Back) Does it feel like your SSD is smaller than it should be? You aren’t imagining it. Windows 11 automatically sets aside roughly 7GB of your storage for "Reserved Storage." While Microsoft says this helps with updates, most users would rather have that space back for games, photos, or apps.
In this video, I’ll show you exactly how to check how much space is being taken and the 30-second command to reclaim it.
⚠️ WARNING: Disabling Reserved Storage can cause Windows Updates to fail if your drive is almost completely full. I recommend only doing this if you manually manage your storage and keep at least 10-15GB of free space at all times.
Commands You Can Use :
Powershell:
Set-WindowsReservedStorageState -State Disabled
Set-WindowsReservedStorageState -State Enabled
Command prompt:
Check Status: dism /Online /Get-ReservedStorageState
Disable (Reclaim Space): dism /Online /Set-ReservedStorageState /State:Disabled
Enable (Restore Default): dism /Online /Set-ReservedStorageState /State:Enabled
