Windows 7 and 8 users recently started getting a notification to tell them that you can get Windows 10 for free! Here's why I think Microsoft decided to give out the free upgrade.

Ⓠ: What if the icon doesn't show up?
Ⓐ: The notification apparently comes along an update called "KB3035583". Look in your windows update panel for option updates and see if it's in there.
Ⓠ: What versions can I upgrade from?
Ⓐ: Correction from the video - It actually appears that you can only get the free upgrade if you currently have Windows 7 or 8. If you have a pirated copy, you may be able to install Windows 10, but it will not be a legitimate copy.
Ⓠ: Will the free copy be forever?
Ⓐ: Yes, I kind of mis-spoke in the video. What I meant to say is that you must sign up to get the free upgrade within one year of the release of Windows 10. If you reserve your copy within this 1 year window, your Windows 10 license will be valid forever. I did NOT mean to imply that you will need to purchase Windows 10 after one year.
Ⓠ: Will I lose documents, pictures, or videos when upgrading?
Ⓐ: Theoretically, you should not lose any documents or personal data. However, it's ALWAYS recommended that you back up important data before upgrading, in case of the small chance something goes wrong.
