This isn't the traditional door storage; opening the large doors have two parts to them: opening the door and Link walking into the loading zone. For whatever reason pulling out the Wind Waker makes Link fly toward the door (it likely forces Link toward the inner part of the door because of the unique opening animation). I used this to try to enter the loading zone for the Helmaroc King arena. I had to cancel the Wind Waker almost right after pulling it out; Link would otherwise continue flying toward the door below. This sort of storage isn't the same as the similar type once used at the password skip, which instantly teleported Link to Tingle's door or whatever.
This sort of storage actually seems like it could be sort of useful, but I doubt a practical application could be found to improve the any% route.
