In this lesson we'll take a look at the yaw system found on modern industrial wind turbines. We'll conduct a brief review of motor theory, examine primary and pilot level electro-mechanical components commonly found in yaw systems, and quickly introduce closed loop control. Additionally we'll examine how a turbine determines in which direction to yaw and by how much, how it handles too many turns in one direction, and discuss the strength and duration of wind necessary to make a turbine yaw. Finally, we'll took a look at a simulated yaw sequence and identify checks performed during automatic yaw control that might yield a yaw error. (Full Lecture)
