Prof. Matt McCormick's lecture about William Paley's influential argument from design (Natural Theology 1802). Paley argues by analogy that watches are to watchmakers what the universe is to God. Design arguments suffer from several serious problems: evolution is a better natural explanation, the creation of God is disanalogous to human artifacts like watches, and they confuse necessary and sufficient conditions.
