In this episode of Firm Foundation, I examine Kenneth Copeland's recent conversation with his granddaughter, where she asks a heartbreaking question: "If Jesus healed you 2,000 years ago, why are you still in pain?"
That question opens the door to a much larger discussion about the #WordofFaith movement, healing in the #atonement, #prosperitytheology, and whether #Scripture actually teaches that Christians should expect perfect health in this present life.
Together we'll examine Kenneth Copeland's own testimony of chronic pain, a pacemaker, hearing aids, a blocked artery, a ruptured appendix, hospitalization, sciatica, and possible back surgery, comparing those experiences with the doctrines he has publicly taught for decades.
We'll also examine key biblical passages including Isaiah 53, Genesis 14, Deuteronomy 28, Galatians 3, Hebrews 11, Mark 11, and Romans 4 while tracing the historical influence of A.B. Simpson, John Alexander Dowie, Kenneth Hagin, and Oral Roberts on modern prosperity theology.
Does Christ's atonement guarantee physical healing today? What is "the curse of the law" in Galatians? Can God sovereignly send sickness according to Scripture? Is the "Blessing of Abraham" really about material prosperity?
Rather than relying on isolated proof texts, this study compares Scripture with Scripture to evaluate the central claims of the Word of Faith movement in their biblical context.
