Some locos seem predestined to fail after a few years of operation due to cracking of the gears that turn the axles, and this is true for both steam and diesel locos. However, when manufacturers fail to provide replacements it can mean the early death of a good running loco. One option I will explore in this video is using 3D printed gears as replacements. So come on along and watch how I replace a broken drive gear on a dead steam loco. You'll also learn how to access the drive mechanism and reassemble it as well as the drive rods. It might look daunting but break it down into steps and it is just one more tedious job that makes model railroading fun!
