Do you think the drive to advance a political climate agenda is getting in the way of actual forest management?
You bring up a good point about taxation. We’ve spent over $50 billion on electric battery plants and similar projects in an effort to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Yet in British Columbia, wildfire emissions regularly dwarf all other sources.
We emit roughly 62 million tonnes of CO₂ from all human activities each year. Wildfires regularly exceed 100 million tonnes and in a bad year that figure can reach 300% of our total emissions.
If wildfires are by far our largest source of greenhouse gases, then instead of pouring money into green building codes and heat pumps, we should be investing heavily in forest management.
That approach would cut emissions more effectively and make our communities safer at the same time.
