Arrow Video has dropped a huge new 4K release for Wild Style (1982), and today we’re taking a full look at the set.
This 3-disc package includes the film on 4K Ultra HD, an extras Blu-ray, and an exclusive audio CD featuring a brand-new Jorun Bombay Megamix, rare alternate mixes, vintage radio spots, audio outtakes, and even a 1983 radio interview with director Charlie Ahearn.
I opted for Arrow’s Vinyl Edition, which also includes the original soundtrack on a 2LP set plus a 7-inch flexidisc — an amazing addition for hip-hop fans and collectors.
The film is presented in its original 1.37:1 aspect ratio from a new 4K restoration with Dolby Vision HDR. Shot on 16mm, the film has always had a rough, gritty texture, but this is by far the best it has ever looked on home video. Grain is natural, colours are vibrant, and the Dolby Vision grade enhances graffiti, street performances, and the New York nightscapes beautifully.
Extras are strong as usual for Arrow Video, with a huge archive of legacy features plus a variety of interviews and documentary pieces exploring the film’s influence and cultural impact.
If you’re a fan of early hip-hop culture, breakdancing, graffiti, or just love seeing important films preserved properly, this Arrow release is absolutely worth adding to your collection.
