It’s World Orangutan Day 🧡
And we’re overjoyed to share this glimpse of a wild orangutan returning to the edges of our reforestation site in Borneo - living proof that when forests are restored, life returns.
The heaviest of all tree-dwelling animals, orangutans are under severe threat. All three species (Bornean, Sumatran and Tapanuli) are critically endangered, with more than 100,000 Bornean orangutans lost between 1999 and 2015, primarily due to logging, fires and rainforest cleared for palm oil plantations.
But through our partnership with Alam Sehat Lestari and Health In Harmony, we’re restoring forests in Borneo’s species-rich rainforest, protecting orangutan habitat, preserving biodiversity and supporting local communities with access to healthcare. 🌳✨
You can help too. Firstly always choose sustainable palm oil, and support the protection of countless species threatened by deforestation by becoming a treesister today.
