I came to the Lake District to take on the Fairfield Horseshoe with the aim of wild camping halfway through. This is a classic, strenuous hiking trail starting at Rydal, or Ambleside. This 10+ mile route is ideal for a challenging backpacking route too.

My backpacking gear weighed approx 12kg including food, water and a couple of beers. New camping gear included my new Fjern Outdoors Stormgrotta 1.5 tent, Thermarest Vespa quilt and Light Tour inflatable sleeping pad.

Wainright mountains include Low Pike, High Pike, Dove Crag, Hart Crag, Fairfield, Great Rigg, Heron Pike and Nab Scar.
