This video was recorded by Daniel Bögre Udell and Kristen Tcherneshoff at the Zambia National Association of the Deaf in Lusaka, Zambia. Zambian Sign Language (ZSL) is used by 14,400 people within Zambia. There are no known dialects for ZSL. The language originally developed, like most sign languages around the world, in a Deaf school in Zambia in 1955, and was later influenced by American Sign Language through missionaries and schools for the deaf established by Americans. The first ZSL dictionary was published by the Zambia National Association of the Deaf (ZNAD) and they are currently working to find funding and support to create a second edition, along with a digital format.
