This one has a bit of a story so get comfy.

About three weeks ago, Adriana hit me up saying she wanted to go to GDC in addition to PAX East and the TRG Thrown Controllers Tour (I'm actually writing this up in the tour van right now!) I thought it would be good for our careers to go, but I knew I wouldn't have time to get all the videos I needed backlogged for the whole trip. It offered a pretty good challenge though, it meant I would have to make today's video entirely while I was traveling.

It was not easy, but luckily we came to Boston earlier than usual to hang with Carlos which opened the opportunity to do a collab. We decided since I wanted to do the Switch Shop gag for April Fools, Wii Shop would be sick to give it our final goodbye after it was announced that it closed. The arrangement was super fun to make it super sad yet resolute by doing a lot of reharmonization. The song features a ton of IV iv I progressions already which has that feeling naturally. Carlos and I also had the idea to try and emulate the Mario 64 credits theme at the end and he did an amazing job with that in addition to everything else he did for this cover.

Though it came out on time, there were a lot of complications. We had a hard time figuring out where to film since we needed piano, we finally decided to be risky and try to film it all at PAX East during the last day. Big thanks to Robbie Benson from Super Soul Bros for letting us use the keyboard! Also thank you to Jamspace for letting us film that impromptu take of the song!

The mixing was the biggest challenge. Turns out it's really difficult to mix in a hotel room. I had such a hard time hearing the bass accurately and trying to get a decent mix without a lot of my usual plug-ins. I'm gonna have to figure out an easier way to mix while traveling moving forward but I think it ended up okay being under these intense constraints.

The video was difficult too, Carlos had a 4k camera which is awesome but filming handicam got difficult especially while weaving between the crowd at PAX. Plus Premiere on my laptop was not accurately showing the sync of the video correctly so I had to keep making export after export doing my best to sync it up based on the exported video. The last export literally having to be made in the car, uploaded to my phone, and then uploaded to YouTube over data.

All of this while doing all of my panels and performances at PAX and on this tour! I hope you guys enjoy what we were able to cram out! We had a lot of fun, but man I don't remember the last time I slept for more than 5 hours a night. It was probably mid March! Yikes. Anyway, thank you so much.
