Protein powder bloating is real — but it may not be the protein itself.

In this video I break down the two most common culprits: the sugar alcohols hiding in your sweetener blend, and the lactose difference between whey concentrate and whey isolate.

The sweeteners to look for on your label are sorbitol, mannitol, xylitol and maltitol. Your gut can't fully absorb them, so it ferments them instead — which pulls in water and produces gas. There's one sugar alcohol that's the exception, and I explain why in the video.

The one that catches most people out has nothing to do with additives though. It's the protein itself — and you don't need to be full-blown lactose intolerant for it to hit you.

To be clear, I'm not saying protein powder is bad. I use one myself. But if you're getting through three, four, five scoops a day and can't shift a bloated stomach even while cutting, it's worth checking what's actually in the tub.

In this video:
• The four sweeteners to look for on your label
• Why they cause gas and bloating
• The one sugar alcohol that's usually fine
• Whey concentrate vs whey isolate, and why it matters
• Two simple changes to fix it
