Why cutting low mids with a wide Q in mastering destroys the warmth of your mix.

Most engineers reach for a wide EQ cut between 200 and 500Hz when the low mids sound muddy. The problem is you strip out the warmth and feel that holds the track together at the same time.

There's a better way. Open an EQ on the mix bus, use a narrow Q, and sweep until you find the exact boxy spot. Pull it down by no more than 1dB. The mud goes. The warmth stays.

Cut narrow. Boost wide. Always.
