This backyard had plenty of uneven ground, which meant we needed different post heights across the frame to get everything level.
Instead of simply screwing the joists into the side of the posts, we notched each post so the joists could sit directly into them. This helps transfer the load down through the post rather than relying only on screws or bolts for support.
It takes a bit more time, but it adds extra strength and stability to the frame, especially on more challenging sites like this one.
