We live in a hypersexualized world—so much so that we’ve lost the ability to recognize deep, nonsexual friendship.
David and Jonathan were not lovers. They were covenant brothers.
When Jonathan gave David his robe and sword, he wasn’t expressing romance—he was surrendering his royal right to the throne and submitting to God’s anointed.
Their souls were knit together, but Scripture never says they became one flesh. That distinction matters.
When we impose modern categories onto the text, we don’t make the Bible clearer—we distort it.
We need to recover a biblical vision of friendship, loyalty, and love that isn’t defined by sex.
