If you feel like your home maintenance tasks are seemingly never ending then it's probably since things haven't been designed from the outset with maintenance in mind. If there's one industry who know where to invest their money to minimise long term maintenance costs it's hotels - you can pick up some great design ideas by having a closer look at what they've spent their money on. Once again I'm putting Travelodge under the spotlight - we paid £65/night for our room here in the summer. Go out of season and you can get rooms from as little as £35/night. Very comfortable hotel with lovely staff. So how do they do it? Just because they're cheap does not mean they scrimp on materials. Some real thought has been put in to the design to minimise long term costs.
